Argentina made abortion legal

Argentina recently made abortion legal up to 14 weeks of pregnancy. It is significant because Argentina had the most restrictive laws on abortion. Earlier, abortion was allowed only in case of rape and if a woman's health was at risk. The new bill introduced allows greater autonomy to women on their bodies, control over reproductive rights, and better health care for pregnant women and young mothers.

It is also known as La Maria Verde. It is a symbol of the pro-abortion movement. After the new bill passed, women celebrated by waving green handkerchiefs. It is a symbol of women's rights across Latin America. Activists have been campaigning with green posters, green handkerchiefs, and green flags to demand the legalization of abortion.
